If your Gas Safety Certificate is more than 10 months old, it’s now time for your annual saftey check. Please agree an appointment when you receive the letter. If you ignore the letter, you risk your own life, and your family’s.
WARNING: This check must be done by law. Calico has no choice but to take to court any tenant who ignores their duty to get a valid gas safety certificate (adding expensive legal costs). If that’s what it takes to make sure homes are safe, then we’ll do it.

Gas leaks
Gas leaks are extremely serious and you must attend to them right away.
If you smell gas:
- Turn off the gas immediately – the main on/off lever is next to your gas meter
- Open windows and doors
- Do not touch any light switches or plug sockets
- Do not light any matches
- Ring British Gas (Transco) immediately on 0800 111 999.
We also recommend you take out insurance to cover theft, fire, vandalism and decoration after leaks, fire or burglary. We can make this easy for you through a special insurance scheme for Calico customers only. Ask us for more details or CLICK HERE
Beware of Carbon Monoxide
Carbon monoxide is a poisonous gas which can be given off by appliances that burn gas, oil, coal or wood if they're not working properly. It can kill without warning in just a matter of hours. Early symptoms include tiredness, drowsiness, headache, pains in the chest and stomach pains.
Every year about 30 people die from carbon monoxide poisoning caused by gas appliances and flues which have not been properly installed or maintained. Many others also suffer ill health.
ALWAYS ensure your home is properly ventilated
NEVER use a gas appliance if you think it's not working properly
BE SAFE – make sure you have a gas safety check every year
